about the work

I have always been strongly drawn to science fiction movies and wriers, specifically the works of ray harryhousen, H.g wells, julies vern and arthur c. clarke.  Ihe 1950's and 1960's movie adaptations of many of their works also had a large impact on the overall aesthetic of many of the pseudo futuristic machines placed within my environments.  Miniature set design was borrowed from the old method of creating early movie special effects, which was used in many of these sci-fi film adaptations.  This allowed me to create familiar, yet somewhat off kilter surreal scenes which further emphasize the fictional and imaginative nature of the work.  This allows the viewer to come as close to the work as possible and immerse themselves into these fictional environments, allowing them to animate their own narritive within the conext of these minature sets.

We are finding that much of what the human mind can imagine can now become reality.  many prominent inventors of our century credit these science fiction writers and movie makers for initially inspiring them to engineer devices once thought to be purely fictitious.  The idea that imagination paired with science and technology has the power to completley transform our society is a core theme within the work.  This body of work confronts some of the environmental and ethical ramifications behind accelerated progression in the fields of bio mechanics, bio mimicry and genetic manipulation, taking into consideration how these innovations in science affect us now, and the impact they may have on our future.
